Super resolution?

The image is approximately 476 megapixels. For comparison, a typical camera has a resolution of around 20-40 megapixels.
If you zoom in, you should be able to make out each individual thread of the cross-stitch. The quality is a little inconsistent, but in large portions of the image you can even see individual fibres in the threads, or specks of dust on the glass.

How?

I used a 20 megapixel camera with a 250mm telephoto lens to photograph parts of the frame as closely as possibe. I took overlapping photos of the entire thing (75 in total), then used software called Hugin to stitch the images together.

Why?

I found the idea interesting.
It's very satisfying to zoom into an image, and be rewarded with more detail rather than less.
And now anyone can appreciate the detail of the work without needing to see it in person.
